Inspiring Experiences Webinar – DigComp in German adult education schools

Date

Dear stakeholders,
The next Inspiring Experiences webinar organised by the DigCompHub project is on the experience with DigComp of vhs (Volkshochschulen), the adult education network in Germany. The webinar will take place on March 13th, 2024 at 14.00-15.00 CET, and you can sign up for it at this link.

With over 800 schools all over the country, the Volkshochschulen (vhs) are a key player in German adult education. Since 2019, working groups inside the vhs-community are raising awareness, building community -with the launch of a community of practice called vhs-DigComp Cop- and creating content to support the usage of the DigComp framework in adult education schools and centers across Germany.

In the webinar, two vhs representatives will illustrate Train-the-Trainer materials developed in this experience, show how DigComp is used in some of the schools, share learnings about the community-building process, and offer insights regarding their latest development: the online course “Meine digitale Welt” (My digital world).

In the first presentation, Karl Damke (from Volkshochschul-Landesverband Schleswig-Holstein and Community Manager of the vhs-DigComp CoP) will talk about how the Austrian DigComp 2.2 AT framework (a DigComp variant presented by Ulrike Domany-Funtan in a previous webinar) kickstarted the DigComp-based work of the vhs. He will share learnings of key presentations and webinars held in the vhs-DigComp CoP. This CoP brought together over 600 people working at Volkshochschulen all over Germany, producing materials, sharing good practices, and helping to shape projects like “Meine digitale Welt“.

Michael Thiel (Project Lead at vhs-Lernportal) will then present the free, online course “Meine digitale Welt“, focused on basic digital skills and addressing both teachers and learners in adult education. On the learners’ side, the target is people with low reading and writing skills, elderly people, and cohorts needing basic digital skills education. In the webinar, Michael will trace back the development of the course from the initial idea to the final realisation and explain the choice of DigComp 2.2 AT as an underlying framework. He will conclude by offering some insights into the coordination process with stakeholders in the vhs-community.

As usual, the webinar participants will be able to ask questions and interact with the speakers at the end of their presentations.
